McDaniel said after the game it didn’t seem like a season-ending injury. But the team ultimately decided to put the sixth-year linebacker on injured reserve because of varying factors, including the expected timeline for Baker’s return and Miami’s need for a roster spot.“It was right on the fringe of yes or no with it,” McDaniel said Saturday. “And our starting point at that point in time was ‘We didn’t need to do it.’ But things change every day, which is why I don’t stamp anything that’s not known.”Baker is second on the team with 47 solo tackles and had 1 1/2 sacks and ...

Protests at UN climate talks, from cease-fire calls to detainees, see ‘shocking level of censorship’

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Activists designated Saturday a day of protest at the COP28 summit in Dubai. But the rules of the game in the tightly controlled United Arab Emirates at the site supervised by the United Nations meant sharp restrictions on what demonstrators could say, where they could walk and what their signs could portray. At times, the controls bordered on the absurd. A small group of demonstrators protesting the detention of activists — one from Egypt and two from the UAE — were not allowed to hold up signs bearing their names. And their calls for a cease-fire in the war in the Gaza Strip couldn’t actually name the states involved. “It is a shocking level of censorship in a space that had been guaranteed to have basic freedoms protected like freedom of expression, assembly and asso...
